Furniture Re-purposing throughout Western MA and Northern CTWho doesn’t love a good before & after? Below are a few completed restoration projects that took pieces my clients wanted to salvage and were re-purposed to fit their design vision. From furniture restorations, to fireplace refreshes, a few improvements go a long way.
Brick has been transformed using a white-wash effect with Annie Sloan Chalk Paint. Mantle was painted with Annie Sloan Chalk Paint in Pure White.

They won’t stay small forever, so this 3 tiered desk shelf was restyled and placed over the dresser. The piece was refreshed with Pure White and Antoinette by Annie Sloan. The bottom is a cork board to pin artwork and pictures that hold special memories.

To elevate the light color, we paint distressed the existing wooden knobs and bamboo mirror, and applied a blend of metallic waxes in sliver, copper and gold, to add interest below and above this piece, and brings a new design element to the room.

Before: The client had purchased this exact black lacquer buffet 10 years ago from Ethan Allen.
After: Drawing color from abstract art work, a custom color of Aubusson Blue and English Yellow was used to paint the buffet adding a pop of color to this new room. The gold fretwork on the cabinet doors matches the custom metallic finish of the chandelier and sconces.

After: Part of the kitchen staging project was installing new white wall cabinets with Oil rubbed bronze hardware. Updating the ceiling fan metal accents from white to ORB will pull the look together and is more cost effective than replacing the entire fixture.

Before: The motivation for this project was a family wedding so this dining room was a good place to start. This 1980’s Bennington Hutch is dark and heavy in this open concept dining room kitchen space in Ludlow, Ma. The opposite wall features a country pine sideboard with dark red drawers.
After: Quite the transformation! The exterior has been painted a soft white, and interior walls painted in Old Ochre. Removing the upper doors gives this piece more visual interest and a perfect place to stage the collection of Polish pottery. The hardware has been updated with soft gold metallic wax.

After: Painted Oxford Blue by Annie Sloan, this rich indigo blue added character against the bead board wall. The hardware was updated with copper metallic wax to match the copper tray. Ready for cocktail hour!

Cape Cod- Before & After. The cottage master bedroom furniture was feeling a bit tired. Refreshed the walls with Ben Moore Revere Pewter, and custom mixed Svenska and Duck Egg Blue chalk paint by Annie Sloan, for a coastal feel.

This four-piece media center with a dark stain was painted with Annie Sloan Chalk Paint in Off-White on the exterior, and the interior was painted with Annie Sloan Chalk Paint in Arles (gold/yellow). It was lightly distressed and sealed with wax and topcoat sealer for protection.
This black Demilune half moon table was repurposed for a good friend who is moving to Florida. The new home has a more neutral tone and this piece will function as a hallway entry table. The hutch was custom painted for a customer. Painted with chalk paint in Olde White and interior accent in French Linen. Lightly distressed and sealed with a clear wax. Original hardware is paint distressed with metallic waxes for a shabby chic look.
This kitchen renovation was designed to provide a more modern neutral look with white cabinets, distressed plank flooring and black, gray, and white granite countertops. The brick wall is a key feature but the natural brick was too heavy and red. This wall was white-washed with Annie Sloan chalk paint which brings out the texture and varying shades of the brick underneath.
A 1980's Pennsylvania House oak dining room set. This table has been sanded, stained a new color and sealed with poly coat for protection. The table base has been chalk painted in Olde White, lightly distressed, and sealed with clear wax for protection.
This project was all about design style change and adding a modern farmhouse feel to the entire house. The dark cabinets and granite made the master bath feel heavy. Updated with quartz countertops, flooring and hardware the color change to the vanity was an instant transformation. The vanity was painted with Annie Sloan chalk paint in French Linen and finished with clear wax for clean modern look.
A Brimfield Flea Market find by a client was in desperate need of restoration. This cottage window had layers of paint and several of the mullions were damaged and the three panel doors were now restyled to two panes. After sanding the old paint and metal hinges and latches I discovered the wood had a red hue which allowed me to give it a modern distressed look without compromising the integrity of the piece. This piece was painted with Annie Sloan Chalk paint in Coco and French Linen and sealed with clear and dark wax for protection
This project is a collaboration of various artists, starting with the handed painted walls which gave us the foundation on the color selection for the window treatments and furniture. The adjoining living room was recently redecorated in soft neutrals of grays, creams, accented with painted pieces and wood stained furniture.
Before: This original Family Room was converted to a dining room creating a a comfortable atmosphere that is a unique blend of traditional, French, and rustic farmhouse styles. The dark brick fireplace was dark and and lacked the neutral rustic style. After: What a transformation! The white-washed brick highlights the wood beams and is the perfect design element for that rustic farmhouse look.

Before: This kitty corner brick wall acted as a surround for this gas stove. With a redecorating project scheduled for the spring, Phase 1 was To white-wash these two walls to add a neutral feel with the stove. Walls in this home will painted in neutral gray tones. After: The White-wash effect adds softness, texture and is a feature all in the mud room/kitchen offers the perfect design element.
This project was truly a Labor of Love! Clearly an example of how family heirlooms have sentimental value as with this room. With a kitchen renovation in the works this provided me with an opportunity to work with my cousin on transitioning this room to flow with the kitchen. The oval table chairs were swapped out for a Trestle table and benches moved from the kitchen. Next came the labor part! My team came to help with sanding the layers of poly coat on this pine trestle table. Pure sweat equity for sure! Great job Deb Buendo and Cathy Hood! After: The table was sanded and restrained in Special Walnut by Minwax, then applied five poly coat to seal the surface for protection. The hutch base and benches were painted with Annie Sloan chalk paint in Old Ochre lightly distressed and sealed with clear and dark wax for protection. New lighting added texture, color and brightness to the room. Modern Farmhouse lighting was added to match the same fixtures in the kitchen.

This Vintage Kimball Upright Piano has good bones and sentimental value for this family, as the third generation gets ready to put this beauty to use. The entire cabinet is painted with Annie Sloan Chalk Paint in white and sealed with a clear was and topcoat for protection. The pedals and metals pieces on the legs are updated with warm gold metallic wax.
Before: This country style pine and painted side table has great details such as arched apron, and lower shelf with planked farmhouse pine board. The barn red paint popular in the 80’s, is ready for a fresh look with cottage style vibe. After: To bring out the curved arches to create a cottage style look, the table was painted with Annie Sloan Chalk Paint in colors Original White and Old Ochre, and sealed with a clear lacquer for protection and durability. Glass knobs add a touch of sparkle and keep the piece light and bright.
The transformation of this table illustrates a whimsical feel with vibrant fresh colors that make you smile. The table and chairs have been painted with Annie Sloan Chalk Paint in White. All pieces are sealed with Annie Sloan Clear Coat Lacquer finish for protection. A sweet gift passed down from Grandma Pam to her twin grand daughters.
Before: Beautiful 1900’s Reproduction Pine Hutch was previously used as bookcase in a family room of their antique colonial home.
After: Restyled for its new home this piece has been repurposed as a dining room hutch that will blend with the newly renovated kitchen cabinets. Think of the function this piece can offer when you design a home with an open concept.
